Following the cancellation of SLAMRAAM funding in 2011, development of the NASAMS version restarted in 2014. Raytheon has proposed an air-launched adaptation of the missile called AMRAAM-AXE, from "Air-launched Extended Envelope".<ref name="amraam-axe"/>
