== Personalities from the 19th to the 21st century ==
Not only the men of the Reformation era Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon and Lucas Cranach left their mark on Wittenberg. Much more than in its role as the capital of [[Electorate of Saxony|Kursachsen]] and as the residential town of [[Saxony-Wittenberg]], the city was shaped by the university.
