An extensive [[Taipei bus|city bus system]] serves metropolitan areas not covered by the metro, with exclusive bus lanes to facilitate transportation.<ref name="tpctoday" /> Riders of the city metro system are able to use the EasyCard for discounted fares on buses, and vice versa. A unique feature of the Taipei bus system is the joint venture of private transportation companies that operate the system's routes while sharing the fare system. This route is in sharp contrast to bus systems in the U.S. which are mostly public entities.
