Plea bargaining was introduced in Japan in June 2018. Under the Japanese system, formally known as the {{Nihongo|"mutual consultation and agreement system"|協議・合意制度|kyogi-goi seido}}, plea bargaining is available in prosecutions for organized crime, competition law violations, and economic crimes such as securities law violations.
