Of the palaces in Japan, many are located in [[Tokyo]], such as the [[Tokyo Imperial Palace]], which houses Japan's royal family. The imperial palace was built on the site of [[Edo Castle]].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3017.html|title=Tokyo Imperial Palace|date=20 May 2019|website=Japan Guide|access-date=27 May 2020}}</ref> Other Japanese palaces are located in Kyoto, the former capital of Japan. Most Japanese palaces are built in a "castle" style formation, as a large pagoda. This helps reinforce the palace from earthquakes.
