The highest expression of lung specific proteins are different [[surfactant]] proteins,<ref name=pmid26475269/> such as [[Surfactant protein A1|SFTPA1]], [[Surfactant protein B|SFTPB]] and [[Surfactant protein C|SFTPC]], and [[NAPSA|napsin]], expressed in type II pneumocytes.
