===== Prince Edward Island ===== The Lieutenant Governor in Council (i.e. the provincial Cabinet) makes appointments on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the President of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island, a member of the council of the Law Society, a person appointed by the provincial Minister of Justice, a judge of either the [[Court of Appeal of Prince Edward Island|Court of Appeal]] or the [[Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island]], and a judge of the [[Provincial Court of Prince Edward Island]]. Law Society of Prince Edward Island.</ref> The lawyer must meet the following three criteria: (1) must be learned in the law; (2) must have consistently exhibited a high standard of professional integrity; and (3) must be of very good character. In addition, the lawyer must meet at least one of the following six criteria: (1) must have a reputation for excellence in the practice of law; (2) must be recognized as a leading counsel; (3) must have great expertise and an outstanding reputation; (4) must have exhibited exceptional qualities of leadership in the legal profession; (5) must have performed outstanding work in the fields of legal education or legal scholarship; or (6) must have made a great contribution to community affairs or public service.<ref name="lawsocietypei.ca"/> In 2016, the government appointed two lawyers as Queen's Counsel.<ref>"[https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/news/queens-counsel-appointments-named Queen's Counsel appointments named for 2016]".
