EMS in the city of Hoboken is provided primarily by the members of the [[Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps]] (HVAC), which was established in 1971. HVAC does not charge for the services it provides. [[Hoboken University Medical Center]], founded in 1863 as St. Mary's Hospital, is a historic hospital and the oldest in continuous operation in the state.<ref>Hack, Charles.
