In March 2009, Brown was named [[Appeal of Conscience Foundation#World Statesman of the Year|World Statesman of the Year]] by the [[Appeal of Conscience Foundation]], an American organisation 'dedicated to promoting peace, human rights and understanding between [[Religion|religious faiths]]'. Brown has, on six occasions, been honoured in the [[Scottish Politician of the Year]] awards organised by ''[[The Herald (Glasgow)|The Herald]]'' newspaper. In 1999, 2000, 2007 and 2014, he won the award in the Best Scot at Westminster category. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award/Outstanding Political Achievement category in 2011.
