In August 2020, Johnson along with several partners and investors—including [[RedBird Capital Partners]]—purchased the [[XFL (2020–2023)|XFL]] for {{USD|15 million|long=no}}. Within months, Johnson announced plans for the relaunch of the league in spring 2022. On January 23, 2024, Johnson joined the [[TKO Group Holdings]] board of directors.
