The wall was first dedicated on December 14, 1988, by [[Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency|Director]] [[Leonard Perroots]]. DIA also maintains a memorial in the headquarters courtyard dedicated to personnel lost in the attacks of [[9/11]] on [[the Pentagon]]. Additionally, the agency maintains the Torch Bearers Wall at its Headquarters. The Torch Bearers award is the highest honor bestowed to former DIA employees and recognizes their exceptional contributions to the agency's mission.
