A proposal to decriminalize polygamy was heard by the Kyrgyz parliament. It was supported by the Justice Minister, the country's ombudsman, and the Muslim Women's organization ''[[Mutakalim]],'' which had gathered 40,000 signatures in favour of polygamy. But, on March 26, 2007, parliament rejected the bill.
