==Sister cities== In 1972, Walla Walla established a [[sister city]] relationship with Sasayama (now named [[Tamba-Sasayama]]), Japan. The two cities have since named roads after their counterpart sister city. Walla Walla has also hosted exchange students from Tamba-Sasayama since 1994 for a two-week home-stay experience. Yearlong high school student exchanges between the cities have occurred several times in the past. Cultural and art exchanges involving music, dance, and various art mediums have also occurred. The Walla Walla Sister City Committee has been the recipient of the Washington State Sister City Association Peace Prize in 2011 and 2014 for their involvement in promoting peace, cultural understanding and friendship.<ref>{{cite web|title=Walla Walla-Sasayama Sister Cities Inc|url=http://wallawallasasayamasistercity.wordpress.com/|access-date=January 8, 2014}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|title=WW Union-Bulletin Article on the 2012 Exchanges|url=http://union-bulletin.com/news/2012/mar/24/sasayama-students-arrive-on-exchange-trip-to/|access-date=January 8, 2014|newspaper=Walla Walla Union-Bulletin|archive-date=January 9, 2014|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140109004906/http://union-bulletin.com/news/2012/mar/24/sasayama-students-arrive-on-exchange-trip-to/|url-status=dead}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|title=Walla Walla, sister city Tamba-Sasayama benefit through connection|url=https://www.union-bulletin.com/local_columnists/walla-walla-sister-city-tamba-sasayama-benefit-through-connection/article_8812625c-9c29-11e9-949e-73f4ae448b5c.html|access-date=January 17, 2020|newspaper=Walla Walla Union-Bulletin}}</ref>
