Britain in the late-18th century had another dozen colonial possessions in the [[British America|New World]] surrounding the 13 colonies. The [[British West Indies]], [[Newfoundland Colony|Newfoundland]], the [[Province of Quebec (1763–1791)|Province of Quebec]], [[Nova Scotia]], [[Prince Edward Island]], [[Bermuda]], and [[East Florida|East]] and [[West Florida]] remained loyal to the British crown throughout the war (although Spain reacquired Florida as the war was ending, and in 1821 sold it to the United States).
