The North Iowa Band Festival in [[Mason City, Iowa]], is a yearly event celebrating music with a special emphasis on marching bands. Willson returned several times to his home town of Mason City during the 1950s to participate in the event, including leading the "Big Parade", and the stars of the film version participated in the event in 1962.<ref>Skipper, John.
