====Effects of the pandemic==== One news report in August 2020 stated that the costs imposed by the pandemic led to the "collapse of the island's tourism sector, which was meant to drive its economic development".<ref name="auto1"/> In 2021, the bicentennial anniversary of Napoleon's death was expected to boost tourism if the pandemic did not prevent visits for many months. As of September 2020, the government was preparing a "tourism recovery strategy",<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/EDC-Memo-20-2020-Tourism-Recovery-Strategy.pdf|title=Tourism Recovery Strategy, 20 November 2020|accessdate=17 March 2021}}</ref> to include an international publicity campaign and the development of further tourism infrastructure for the island".<ref name="auto1"/> As of 30 October 2020, the Government website stated that "due to the [[COVID-19 pandemic]], travel to Saint Helena will only be permitted for limited purposes at this time".<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/coronavirus-covid-19/travel-tourism/|title=Travel & Tourism|accessdate=17 March 2021}}</ref> An item posted on 4 March 2021 on the UK Government website stated that "all arrivals to St Helena are required to have had a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before travelling" and with a few exceptions, non-Saints were not allowed to visit. In addition, all arrivals were required to self-quarantine for 14 days after landing in Saint Helena.<ref name="gov.uk">{{cite web|url=https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/st-helena-ascension-and-tristan-da-cunha|title=Foreign travel advice St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha|accessdate=17 March 2021}}</ref> As of 8 August 2022, the Government website stated that "St Helena lifted its COVID-19 entry regulations.
