====Government transfers to alleviate poverty==== In addition to wage and salary income, investment income and government transfers such as [[Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program|SNAP]] (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps) and housing subsidies are included in a household's income.
