=== <span class="anchor" id="Royal funerals"></span>Funerals === Many royal funerals took place at the abbey between that of Edward the Confessor in 1066{{sfn|Wilkinson|Knighton|2010|p=7}} and that of Prince Henry, the last royal buried in the church, in 1790. Before the funeral, the railings of the abbey were swamped with flowers and tributes.
