In 1826, Poland's [[national poet]], [[Adam Mickiewicz]], wrote a [[sonnet sequence]] known as the ''[[Crimean Sonnets]]'', after 
the Tsar sentenced him to [[exile]] in the [[Crimean Peninsula]]. Mickiewicz's sonnet sequence focuses heavily on the culture and [[Islam]]ic religion of the [[Crimean Tatars]].
