In 2007, Maywood PD was cited by local newspapers and media as having a reputation for also hiring officers that had been terminated from other agencies for misconduct or other legal issues. Due to financial strain resulting from the [[Great Recession]], the Maywood City Council disbanded the Maywood Police Department effective July 1, 2010.
