At the request of the United States, [[South Korea]] under [[Park Chung Hee]] sent approximately 320,000 South Korean troops to fight alongside the United States and South Vietnam during the [[Vietnam War]]. In 2023, a South Korean court ruled in favour of a Vietnamese victim of South Korean atrocities during the war and ordered that the South Korean government compensate the surviving victim. In response, the South Korean government repeated its earlier denials of the atrocities, and later announced its appeal of the decision.
