===Russian losses=== Russian personnel losses were 216 officers and 4,614 men killed; with 278 officers and 5,629 men taken as Prisoners Of War (POW). Interned in neutral ports were 79 officers and 1,783 men. Escaping to [[Vladivostok]] and [[Diego-Suarez]] were 62 officers and 1,165 men.<ref name="corb333"/> The battle was humiliating for Russia, which lost all its battleships and most of its cruisers and destroyers. The battle effectively ended the Russo-Japanese War in Japan's favour. The Russians lost 4,380 killed and 5,917 captured with a further 1,862 interned.{{sfn|Regan|1992|page=178}} Two admirals, [[Zinovy Rozhestvensky|Rozhestvensky]] and [[Nikolai Nebogatov|Nebogatov]], were captured by the Japanese Navy. The second in command of the fleet, Rear Admiral [[Dmitry Gustavovich von Fölkersahm]], after suffering a [[cerebral hemorrhage]] on 16 April, died in the night of 24 May 1905 onboard battleship {{ship|Russian battleship|Oslyabya||2}}.<ref name=rngs /> Vice Admiral [[Oskar Enqvist]] fled to Manila onboard cruiser {{ship|Russian cruiser|Oleg||2}} and was interned by the United States. ====Battleships==== The Russians lost eleven battleships, including three smaller [[coastal battleship]]s, either sunk or captured by the Japanese, or scuttled by their crews to prevent capture. Four were lost to enemy action during the daylight battle on 27 May: {{ship|Russian battleship|Knyaz Suvorov||2}}, {{ship|Russian battleship|Imperator Aleksandr III|1901|2}}, {{ship|Russian battleship|Borodino||2}} and {{ship|Russian battleship|Oslyabya||2}}. {{ship|Russian battleship|Navarin||2}} was lost during the night action on 27–28 May, while the {{ship|Russian battleship|Sissoi Veliky||2}} and {{ship|Russian coast defense ship|Admiral Ushakov||2}}{{sfn|Willmott|2009|p=118}} were either scuttled or sunk the next day. Four other battleships, under Rear Admiral Nebogatov, were forced to surrender and would end up as [[prize of war|prizes of war]]. This group consisted of only one modern battleship, {{ship|Russian battleship|Oryol||2}}, along with the old battleship {{ship|Russian battleship|Imperator Nikolai I|1889|2}} and two small [[Coastal defence ship|coastal battleships]] {{ship|Russian coast defense ship|General-Admiral Apraksin||2}} and {{ship|Russian coast defense ship|Admiral Seniavin||2}}.{{sfn|Willmott|2009|p=118}} ====Cruisers==== The Russian Navy lost five of its nine cruisers during the battle, three more were interned by the Americans, with just one reaching Vladivostok. {{ship|Russian cruiser|Vladimir Monomakh||2}} and {{ship|Russian cruiser|Svetlana|1896|2}} were sunk the next day after the daylight battle. ''Izumrud'' ran aground on the Siberian coast.{{sfn|Willmott|2009|p=118}} Three Russian [[protected cruiser]]s, {{ship|Russian cruiser|Aurora||2}}, {{ship|Russian cruiser|Zhemchug||2}}, and {{ship|Russian cruiser|Oleg||2}}, escaped to the [[United States Navy|U.S. naval]] base at [[Manila]]{{sfn|Willmott|2009|p=118}} in the then-[[Insular Government of the Philippine Islands|American-controlled Philippines]] where they were interned by the United States. The armed yacht (classified as a cruiser) {{ship|Russian cruiser|Almaz||2}}, alone was able to reach Vladivostok.{{sfn|Willmott|2009|p=119}} ====Destroyers and auxiliaries==== Imperial Russia also lost six of its nine destroyers in the battle, had one interned by the Chinese, and the other two reached Vladivostok. ''Buyniy'' ("Буйный"), ''Bezuprechniy'' ("Безупречный"), ''Gromkiy'' ("Громкий") and ''Blestyashchiy'' ("Блестящий") were sunk on 27 May. ''Bistriy'' ("Быстрый") was beached and destroyed by her crew the next day. ''Byedoviy'' ("Бедовый") surrendered also on 28 May. Ammunition ship ''Koreya'' and ocean tug ''Svir'' reached Shanghai and returned home. After being ordered to separate from the fleet on 22 May,{{efn|name=terek}} auxiliary cruisers [[SS Augusta Victoria (1888)|''Kuban'']] and [[Spanish cruiser Rapido|''Terek'']] were interned at [[Batavia, Dutch East Indies|Batavia]] in [[Dutch East Indies]] by the Netherlands on 9 June 1905 after raiding a British and a Danish steamer destined for Japan. Transports ''Yaroslavl'', ''Vladimir'', ''Kuronia'', ''Voronezh'', ''Livonia'' and ''Meteor'' were detached from the fleet on 25 May, reached Shanghai and returned home. Auxiliary cruisers ''[[Smolensk (1901 ship)|Rion]]'' and ''[[SS Petersburg (1894)|Dniepr]]''<ref name=dniepr>{{cite web|title=TYNE BUILT SHIPS -A history of Tyne shipbuilders and the ships that they built|url=http://www.tynebuiltships.co.uk/P-Ships/petersburg1894.html}}</ref> escorted the transports to Shanghai, engaged in [[commerce raiding]] activities in the [[Yellow Sea]], and returned to [[Kronstadt]] on 31 July 1905.<ref>{{cite web|title=Steamboat-cruiser "Smolensk"|url=https://retroflot.com/dobrovoljnyj_flot/parohodkrejser_smolensk.html|language=ru}}</ref> Transports ''Mercury'', ''Tambov'', ''Herman Lerke'', ''Count Stroganov'' and repair ship ''Ksenia'', which accompanied the Third Pacific Fleet to [[Cam Ranh Bay]], had been sent home via [[Saigon]].{{sfn|Novikov-Priboy|1937|loc=Book 1, Chapter 4}} Merchant cruiser [[SS Dekabrist|''Anadyr'']] escaped to [[Madagascar]] and then returned home.
