The International Academy of Trenton, owned and monitored by the [[SABIS]] school network, became a charter school in 2014. On February 22, 2017, Trenton's mayor, Eric Jackson, visited the school when it opened its doors in the former ''[[The Times (Trenton)|Trenton Times]]'' building on 500 Perry Street, after completion of a $17&nbsp;million renovation project. After receiving notice from the [[New Jersey Department of Education]] that the school's charter would not be renewed due to issues with academic performance and school management, the school closed its doors on June 30, 2018.<ref>Foster, David.
