The production was based jointly upon Anthony Shaffer's original ''The Wicker Man'' script and David Pinner's novel ''Ritual''. In 2011, the [[National Theatre of Scotland]] produced ''An Appointment with the Wicker Man'' written by [[Greg Hemphill]] and Donald McCleary.
