=== Sea lions === Recently, [[California sea lion|sea lions]] have been found traveling far up the Sacramento in search of nutrient rich salmon. These individuals tend to be young males looking to bulk up before breeding season. The recent boom of sea lion sightings in the river has been attributed to the passage of the [[Marine Mammal Protection Act]] in 1972, leading to a resurgence in sea lion populations, requiring the species to expand its range.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Adatia |first=Noor |date=29 March 2023 |title=Sea lions in Sacramento?
