Other venues that frequently organise live music events are Kex, Húrra, Gaukurinn ([[grunge]], [[Heavy metal music|metal]], [[punk rock|punk]]), Mengi (centre for [[contemporary music]], [[avant-garde music]] and [[experimental music]]), [[the Icelandic Opera]] and the [[National Theatre of Iceland]] for classical music.

===New Year's Eve===
The arrival of the new year is a particular cause for celebration to the people of Reykjavík. Icelandic law states that anyone may purchase and use fireworks between 28th December and 6th January.
