Hardware vendors were reluctant to support device drivers for alternative operating systems including OS/2, leaving users with few choices from a select few vendors. To relieve this issue for video cards, IBM licensed a reduced version of the [[UniVBE|Scitech display drivers]], allowing users to choose from a wide selection of cards supported through Scitech's modular driver design.<ref>{{cite web
