====1978==== Donnelly reported the assault, and police questioned Gacy on January 6, 1978. Gacy then dumped Rignall in Chicago's [[Lincoln Park, Chicago|Lincoln Park]], unconscious but alive.{{sfn|Cahill|1986|pp=205β233}} Rignall managed to stagger to his girlfriend's apartment. Police were informed of the assault but did not investigate Gacy. Rignall was able to recall the Oldsmobile, the [[Kennedy Expressway]] and particular side streets. He was murdered in mid-June after leaving his apartment to purchase cigarettes.
