At [[Wellesley College]], a historically women's college, it is traditional for the students to cheer on the runners in what is referred to as the Scream Tunnel.<ref name=Pave/><ref name=slideshow/> For about a quarter of a mile (400{{nbsp}}m), the students line the course, scream, and offer kisses. 
The Scream Tunnel is so loud runners claim it can be heard from a mile away. The tunnel is roughly half a mile (0.8{{nbsp}}km) prior to the halfway mark of the course.<ref name=scream/><ref name=kisses/>
