As of 2011, 72.6% of people are not affiliated with any religion. The [[Protestant Church in Germany]] represents the largest [[Christian]] denomination in the state, adhered to by 21.4% of the population. Members of the [[Roman Catholic Church]] formed a minority of 3.8%. In particular in the larger cities, there are numerous smaller religious communities. 

The international [[Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] has a presence in the [[Freiberg Germany Temple]] which was the first of its kind in Germany, opened in 1985 even before its counterpart in Western Germany.
