Quezon had established the Institute of National Language (INL) to create a national language for the country. On 30 December 1937, in [https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/1937/12/30/executive-order-no-134-s-1937/ Executive Order No. 134], he declared [[Tagalog language|Tagalog]] the Philippines' national language; it was taught in schools during the 1940–1941 academic year.
