The panel managed to convince the two principal parties to the conflict, Kenyan president [[Mwai Kibaki]]'s [[Party of National Unity (Kenya)|Party of National Unity]] (PNU) and [[Raila Odinga]]'s [[Orange Democratic Movement]] (ODM), to participate in the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation Process (KNDR).<ref name="CBSNEWS" /> Over the course of 41 days of negotiations, [[National Accord and Reconciliation Act 2008|several agreements regarding taking actions]] to stop the violence and to remedy its consequences were signed.
