In August 2023, FIDE ruled that transgender women would be excluded from women's tournaments organised by them, such as the [[Women's World Chess Championship]], the [[Women's Chess World Cup]], and qualification events for these. Since the announcement, French transgender player [[Yosha Iglesias]] has competed as a woman and been awarded the [[Woman International Master]] title.
