Afternoon thunderstorms are regularly generated by the interaction of the [[Gulf of Mexico|Gulf]] and [[Atlantic Ocean|Atlantic]] [[sea breeze]]s and are such a regular occurrence during the summer that the Tampa Bay area and nearby inland areas of [[Central Florida]] are recognized as the "Lightning Capital of North America".
