Allen and Dorothy Goodman married in 1943 and had three children: Steve Jr., Brian, and David. That marriage ended in 1952. Allen's second wife was actress [[Jayne Meadows]]. They had one son, Bill Allen, named for Steve's father. They were married in Waterford, Connecticut, on July 31, 1954,<ref>"TV's Steve Allen Weds Panel Pal." Boston Traveler, July 31, 1954.</ref> and remained married until his death in 2000.<ref name="NYT" />
