Proton entered the People's Republic of China in 2007 under a strategic joint venture with China [[Youngman]] Automobile Group Co., Ltd. Both models received unique parts and [[facelift (automobile)|facelifts]] from Youngman between 2007 and 2013. Youngman unveiled the Europestar L5 hatchback and [[sedan (car)|saloon]] models at the 2011 Shanghai Motorshow.
