As pitchers benefit from a longer training period, pitchers and catchers begin spring training several days before the rest of the team.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/spring-training|title=MLB: Spring Training|access-date=October 13, 2013|archive-date=October 12, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131012175142/http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/spring-training|url-status=live}}</ref>
