Geelong is served by a number of [[public education|public]] and [[private education|private]] schools that cater to local and overseas students. Over 40,000 primary and secondary students are enrolled in schools in Geelong, with another 27,000 students enrolled in tertiary and further education programs.<ref name="cogg-top10" /> The first schools in Geelong were established when the town was settled from the 1850s, among them were the historic private schools [[The Geelong College]] and [[Geelong Grammar School]].<ref name="fastfacts">{{cite web

Geelong is also home to the oldest state secondary school in Victoria, [[Geelong High School]] ({{Abbr|est.|established}} 1910<ref>{{Cite web |title=Our History |url=https://www.geelonghigh.vic.edu.au/about-us/history |access-date=2024-08-30 |website=Geelong High School |language=en-AU}}</ref>), which has been serving the community for over 100 years.
