Major highways, the [[Stirling Highway]], [[Canning Highway]] and [[Leach Highway]] connect Fremantle to the Perth CBD. Passenger ferries operate from the port, travelling to [[Rottnest Island]], 22 kilometres off of the coast in the Indian Ocean, and upriver to Perth city centre.
