[[California State Route 78|State Route 78]] provides freeway access to San Marcos, with six interchanges serving the city. Several roads in San Marcos are county routes that connect the city with other nearby cities including Vista, Carlsbad and Escondido, such as Rancho Santa Fe Road ([[California county routes in zone S#S10|CR S10]]), San Marcos Boulevard and Twin Oaks Valley Road ([[California county routes in zone S#S12|CR S12]]), and Mission Road ([[California county routes in zone S#S14|CR S14]]).
