[[DNA methylation]] patterns are often changed in tumours, and the RELN gene could be affected: according to one study, in the [[pancreatic cancer]] the expression is suppressed, along with other reelin pathway components<ref name="Pancreatic_Cancer_2006" /> In the same study, cutting the reelin pathway in cancer cells that still expressed reelin resulted in increased motility and invasiveness.
