In modern history, [[Peru]] underwent a period of hyperinflation in the 1980s to the early 1990s starting with [[Fernando Belaúnde Terry|President Fernando Belaúnde's]] second administration, heightened during [[Alan García|Alan García's]] first administration, to the beginning of [[Alberto Fujimori|Alberto Fujimori's term]]. 1 [[United States dollar|US dollar]] was worth over [[Peruvian sol (1863-1985)|S/]]3,210,000,000. Garcia's term introduced the [[Peruvian inti|inti]], which worsened inflation into hyperinflation.
