== Urban geography ==
The three most populated cities in Chile are [[Santiago]], [[Valparaíso]], and [[Concepción, Chile|Concepción]]. Industrial cities, such as Concepción and Talcahuano, began as colonial centers in the 1600s. Most of the large cities in Chile began as settlement locations for Spanish colonists living in homes constructed from adobe. Gentrification is occurring in the municipal district of Santiago, which is impacting low income residents. Housing availability has reduced by 50% for residents and rent for new apartments has increased, changing the average income of that location.
