====As a sacrifice====

In the Eucharist the same sacrifice that Jesus made only once on the cross is believed to be made present at every Mass. "When the Church celebrates the Eucharist, she commemorates Christ's Passover, and it is made present the sacrifice Christ offered once for all on the cross remains ever present. [...] The Eucharist is thus a sacrifice because it re-presents (makes present) the same and only sacrifice offered once for all on the cross"<ref>{{Cite CCC|2.1|1362–67}}</ref>

The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are considered as one single sacrifice: "The victim is one and the same: the same now offers through the ministry of priests, who then offered himself on the cross; only the manner of offering is different."<ref name="scborromeo.org">{{cite web| url = http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/1367.htm| title = Catechism of the Catholic Church #1367}}</ref> In the holy sacrifice of the Mass, "it is Christ himself, the eternal high priest of the New Covenant who, acting through the ministry of the priests, offers the Eucharistic sacrifice.
