The Freedom of Donegal is an award that is given to people who have been recognised for outstanding achievements on behalf of the people and County Donegal. In 2009 the members of the 28th [[Infantry]] [[Battalion]] of the [[Defence Forces (Ireland)|Irish Defence Forces]] were also awarded the [[Freedom of the City|Freedom of the County]] from [[Donegal County Council]] "in recognition of their longstanding service to the County of Donegal".
