Cookeville has a [[Council–manager government|council-manager]] municipal government. There is an elected five-member [[city council]], including a [[mayor]], vice mayor, and three city council members. The city council establishes policy that is administered by a full-time [[city manager]]. City council members serve four-year terms, and the city manager and city clerk are appointed by the city council. The mayor is Laurin Wheaton, and the four other city council members are Vice Mayor Luke Eldridge, Ali Bagci, Chad Gilbert, and Eric Walker.
