Projects such as NANOCLEAN are nowadays developing new ways to produce biogas more efficiently, using iron oxide [[nanoparticle]]s in the processes of organic waste treatment. [[Fecal sludge management|Faecal Sludge]] is a product of onsite sanitation systems. Post collection and transportation, Faecal sludge can be treated with sewage in a conventional treatment plant, or otherwise it can be treated independently in a faecal sludge treatment plant.
