==Geography==
Valatie is located in the center of the Town of [[Kinderhook (town), New York|Kinderhook]] in northern Columbia County. It is part of the [[Hudson Valley]] region of New York State. It is {{convert|21|mi}} south of Albany, the state capital, and {{convert|15|mi}} northeast of [[Hudson, New York|Hudson]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the village has a total area of {{convert|3.28|km2|disp=flip}}, of which {{convert|3.25|km2|disp=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.03|km2|disp=flip|2}}, or 0.95%, is surface water.<ref name="Census 2010"/> The village is located at the juncture of Valatie Kill with [[Kinderhook Creek]], a tributary of the Hudson River. There are three [[waterfall]]s in the village, all along Main Street: Valatie Kill Falls/Wild's Falls, Little Falls Creek/Beaver Mill Falls, and [[Kinderhook Creek]].
