Thief River Falls is located at the confluence of the [[Red Lake River|Red Lake]] and [[Thief River|Thief rivers]]. [[U.S. Route 59#Minnesota|U.S. Highway 59]] and Minnesota State Highways [[Minnesota State Highway 1|1]] and [[Minnesota State Highway 32|32]] are the three main routes in the community. Thief River Falls is located approximately {{convert|70 |miles|km}} south of the [[Canada–United States border]] and {{convert|52|miles|km}} northeast of [[Grand Forks, North Dakota|Grand Forks]], [[North Dakota]], in the northwest region of [[Minnesota]].
