According to the [[Köppen climate classification]], Teruel has a [[semi-arid climate|cold semi-arid climate]] (''BSk''). Summer temperatures are warm to hot, although there is much daily variation, and winters are cold, with low minimum temperatures sometimes dropping to {{convert|-10|C|F|1}}. The lowest amount of rainfall is in winter and the highest in late spring and mid autumn.
